Oncology and Chemo update

October 20, 2008

Sarah had an appointment with her oncologist last week, and it went well.  The doctor said the chemo is definitely continuing to work, and the cancer is continuing to shrink.  They discussed plans for her next PET scan which will probably be in early January.  That scan will show how much cancer is left, and will start the discussion about possible surgery in the early spring.  We were all encouraged by how positive the doctor was!

Today (Monday) was her next scheduled chemo date, but unfortunately her immunity numbers are really low (based on blood work yesterday), so they postponed this chemo treatment until next week.  She’ll get immunity booster shots this week, and hopefully will have better numbers so she can get chemo next Monday.  Please pray that she can stay healthy and well, even with low immunity.

Chemo update

October 3, 2008

Sarah had chemo this last Monday, and other than having to wait for a long time to get started, the treatment went well.  She has begun taking a mini portable DVD player and watching a movie during the treatment, which makes it go MUCH faster, and serves as a good distraction.

This week, she has been doing fairly well - very tired, but not quite as sick as former weeks.  She has a new “smoothie” recipe that she’s been using to help with her energy level and nausea.  It’s definitely working!

This week, we have a prayer request about the kids - both Austin and Hailey are doing pretty well in school, but as you can imagine, life is a little unsettled for them right now.  Hailey is having a difficult time with separating from Sarah when it’s time to be dropped off for school.  The teacher and staff report that she is doing fine in class and keeping up with the challenges of the work, which is great, but we’d love to have extra prayers for Hailey (and Austin too!) as they deal with the changes this illness has brought into their lives.  As always, we thank you for your prayers!
