Doctor Appointment Update

September 26, 2008

Sarah saw her oncologist on Wednesday, and everything is continuing to look positive.  The doctor said everything is looking as good or better than he could have expected.

Sarah did need to get immunity booster shots this week, as her white blood cell count was low.  This is the FIRST time since she began treatments that her actual bloodwork came back low, which just shows how healthy Sarah has been in every other way.

Please pray for her through the coming months, as we get into cold and flu season.  She will be especially vulnerable and needs to avoid any extra illness.  Please pray for protection for her, and for patience as she has to avoid social situations and stay away from activities that she normally would have been a part of, pre-cancer.

Thank you, as always for the continued prayers.  Don’t forget you can leave notes of encouragement to her HERE.

P.S.  The Pampered Chef fundraiser party is ending TODAY (Friday, 26th). If you’d like to place an order through the website, here are the instructions again:

  1. Go to: http://www.pamperedchef.biz/maggies
  2. Once you are there, click on ORDER PRODUCTS. You will be taken to a new page.
  3. Enter SARAH BOOTH in the hostess info boxes.
  4. On the next page, Shop for Sarah/Sarah Booth will be listed as a link.  Click that link to continue.
  5. Browse through the categories on the left side to find products you are interested in.
  6. Make your purchase.
  7. Raise money for Sarah and Ron!

Having a better week…

September 19, 2008

Sarah is in between chemo treatments, and is having a MUCH better week this week than last.  The symptoms and reactions to her chemo treatment (a week ago Monday) came on more slowly than in the past, but then hit just as hard once they began.  We were hoping it’d be a bit easier, since the beginning was delayed, but no, it was still pretty tough.  Thankfully she was able to get some steroids to help ease some of the effects (a pretty itchy rash), and that helped give her some energy back too.

Yes, steroids - who would have thought we’d be GLAD for steroids a few months ago?  Not me, and definitely not Sarah!

Thanks, as always, for your continued prayers!

Chemo Update!

Sarah had her second TCH treatment yesterday, and it went MUCH, MUCH better than the previous treatment.  We’re hoping for a better week this time around.

During the course of getting her various meds yesterday, they realized that she has an allergy to Zofran, which is something they have been giving her EVERY time for six cycles now.  Apparently it started out as a minor irritation the first few chemo treatments (and when you are new to all this, how are you supposed to know one side effect from another?).  Yesterday it started causing a pretty significant reaction (severe itchiness, rash, etc), so they immediately stopped the IV, and gave her a dose of Benadryl, which helped.  It’s such a bummer to know that part of the problems and side effects all along for almost three months has been a drug they could have eliminated!  BUT, it’s a HUGE blessing to know now, and it’s in her chart so they won’t be giving it to her anymore!

Sarah was upbeat and feeling good last night, which is pretty unusual for the evening after chemo.  She also wanted to report that she was able to taste the pizza that was brought for dinner. YAY!!  It’s been a frustrating side effect that she couldn’t taste a lot of the foods during her chemo week… but last night… the pizza was GOOD, (and she had three pieces)!

On another note - Ken and Sarah (brother and sister-in-law in Nebraska) have put together a fund-raiser, through Pampered Chef.  It’s a “catalog” type party where you can purchase online, and all proceeds from the party will go to Sarah and Ron.  I’ll post a link with more information later today or tomorrow, as soon as I am sure I have the correct link and instructions.

Thank you, as always, for your continued prayers, support, and encouragement.

A few updates…

September 5, 2008

Just a few updates today!

First, Sarah saw her oncologist on Tuesday, and it was a quick, positive appointment.  The tumors are still shrinking slowly but surely, and she will continue with the current chemo cycle for five more treatments (through December).  We appreciate all your prayers, and please pray that this new chemo will do the job and continue to shrink, shrink, shrink those tumors!

Second, the Care Calendar has been updated to include shifts to help Sarah and the kids during her chemo weeks.  The chemo is pretty rough on Sarah, and it’s hard to manage the daily tasks of getting the kids to and from school.  There is a link to the Care Calendar in the left side-bar.

And third, there is now a new website set up to help as a fundraiser for Sarah and Ron.  You can visit www.shopforsarah.com and purchase crafts and goodies made by Sarah’s mom Cheryl.  We will be adding additional items by me (Charlene), and other friends who have donated hand-made crafts.  All the proceeds from the website will go directly to Sarah and Ron to help with medical-related and life expenses as they fight this cancer battle.  I thank you for looking, and if you have any questions about the shop or items, please feel free to email me at char@digiscrapchat.com
